Instead of using the Fr{umlt o}hlich Hamiltonian, we have presented in this paper the dispersion-theory approach based on the zero-point energy to discuss the polaron in a quasi-one-dimensional structure. The polaron energy is calculated. The effect of a degenerate electron gas on the phonon frequencies is also presented. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
