Proton decay of an intruder state in {sup 185}Bi

Journal Article · · Physical Review Letters

The new proton radioactivity {sup 185{ital m}}Bi has been observed, produced {ital via} the {sup 95}Mo({sup 92}Mo,{ital pn}){sup 185}Bi reaction. Its decay proceeds from the low-lying 1/2{sup +} intruder state in {sup 185}Bi to the {sup 184}Pb ground state with the emission of a proton of energy 1.585{plus_minus}0.009 MeV and a half-life of 44{plus_minus}16 {mu}s. This marks the first observation of proton radioactivity above the {ital Z}=82 closed shell, and it has been used to obtain the admixture of a 0{sup +} intruder state in {sup 184}Pb into the {sup 184}Pb ground-state wave function. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
