{ital T}{sub 20} measurements for {sup 1}H({ital d}{searrow},{gamma}){sup 3}He and the {ital P}-wave component of the nucleon-nucleon force

Measurements of {ital T}{sub 20}({theta}{sub lab}=90{degree}) for {sup 1}H({ital d}{searrow},{gamma}){sup 3}He, in the energy range {ital E}{sub {ital d}}(lab)=12.7{endash}19.8 MeV, have been compared with the results of new exact three-body Faddeev calculations using the Paris and Bonn-{ital A} nucleon-nucleon ({ital NN}) potentials. This comparison indicates a strong sensitivity of the {ital T}{sub 20} observable to the {ital p}-wave part of the {ital NN} force. In particular, we find that the {sup 3}{ital P}{sub 1} component of the {ital P}-wave interaction is the dominant {ital P}-wave term affecting the value of {ital T}{sub 20}({theta}{sub lab}=90{degree}) at these energies. This contrasts with the results of polarized {ital N}-{ital D} scattering studies where the {sup 3}{ital P}{sub 0} component has been found to dominate. {cents} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
