Recent developments in mobile and portable mass spectrometry permit on-site analytical investigations of environmental pollutants. On site analysis helps increase the accuracy of the procedures and decrease the investigation costs. The mobile environmental GC/MS system EM640 allows on-site analysis of soil, water and gas samples with its versatile sampling and inlet systems. The analysis of volatile organic compounds is carried out using the EM640. As results of the tests with purgeables from EPA Method 624, a stable performance is observed and good accuracy and precision data are obtained.
