Analysis of heat transfer on moving turbine blades using microstructural changes due to aging

This paper presents the evaluation of heat-transfer rate on the surface of moving turbine blades based on their microstructural changes due to aging. {gamma}{prime} strengthened nickel-based superalloy is used extensively in moving turbine blades. The aging effect on the change of {gamma}{prime} precipitates is investigated. The average diameter of {gamma}{prime} precipitates increases linearly with time raised to the one-third power of aging temperature. The metal temperature of moving turbine blades used in the gas-turbine field operations could be estimated by applying the above method. Also, its temperature is obtained numerically from the heat-transfer rates which are calculated using some analytical methods. By comparison of both metal temperatures, the heat-transfer rates on the surfaces of turbine blades used in gas-turbine field operations are estimated and are evaluated.
