Whisker crystal growth of zinc-silicate

Whisker crystals of zinc silicate (Zn{sub 2}SiO{sub 4}) were grown on a ZnO ceramic disc by heating a ZnO ceramic disc with a silica glass plate and Bi{sub 2}O{sub 3} powder in an alumina crucible at 1,200 C in air. Bi{sub 2}O{sub 3} powder is considered to be a key substance in growing whisker crystals of Zn{sub 2}SiO{sub 4}.
