  1. Central Illinois Public Service Co., Springfield, IL (United States)
In July, 1994 Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPS) formed a cross-functional team to develop an electric and gas GIS-AM/FM system and Outage Management System, otherwise known as the AIMS project. In addition, CIPS decided to develop a GIS-AM/FM system that would support not only an Outage Management System, but many other applications in the near future. These other applications include Engineering Analysis, SCADA, Materials Management, Work Management, and Plant Accounting just to name a few. This paper will describe the CIPS approach to building a GIS-AM/FM, discuss issues of integrating multiple applications, and provide real-world recommendations.
