The geological design, drilling technology, and reservoir engineering are facing a new challenge as the application of thermal recovery for the oil-bearing formation in loose, thin, sandstone and conglomerate by horizontal wells. In Le`an oil field, it is successful that the very heavy oil in loose, thin sandstone and conglomerate is recovered by steam injection through horizontal well. This paper stresses the method of geological design for horizontal well to be drilled in loose, thin sandstone and conglomerate pool with heavy oil, the results of the optimization of well pattern, perforation, injection, and recovery factors by numerical simulation, and the evaluation of production performance and recovery effect by using horizontal wells.
