The North Bodo Horizontal Well Steam Pilot Project commenced in late 1992 to evaluate the economic feasibility of heavy oil production by the {open_quotes}Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage Process (SAGD),{close_quotes} in the Bodo McLaren channel sand in the Provost field, Alberta. This unconsolidated sanstone heavy oil reservoir contains a 14{degrees} API crude. Primary production from the project area started in the early 1980s and ultimate primary recovery is expected to reach 15% OOIP. The pilot project consists of one horizontal producing well, two steam injection wells, and a number of observation wells. PanCanadian Petroleum Limited and CS Resources Limited are partners in this project. This paper reviews the reservoir aspects, pilot project design, and the physical and numerical modelling work conducted for this project.
