Texas has a long history as an energy producer and it seems only natural that it should wish to tap its abundant solar and wind resources. Central and South West Incorporated (CSW), a Dallas based utility holding company, has made a serious commitment to identify the possible contribution that renewables could make to its system. A solar park and 6 MW wind farm are well on the way to completion in the Fort Davis region of West Texas. Although not required by federal regulations to complete an environmental review, CSW commissioned a number of universities to assist them in evaluating the economic, technological, social and environmental effects of their renewables projects. The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), with its active wind turbine research program, was selected to help in {open_quotes}demystifying the wind turbine noise issue.{close_quotes} This paper is intended as a reminder of the major wind turbine noise issues.
