The one-dimensional arrays [(DMF){sub 10}Yb{sub 2}[Ni(CN){sub 4}]{sub 3}]{infinity} (1) and [(DMF){sub 10}Yb{sub 2}[Pt-(CN){sub 4}]{sub 3}]{infinity} (2) were prepared from the metathesis reactions of YbCl{sub 3} and K{sub 2}Ni(CN){sub 4} or K{sub 2}Pt(CN){sub 4} in DMF (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). Unlike other one-dimensional structures adopted by complexes of M(CN){sub 4}{sup 2{minus}} anions, two unusual array structures were obtained.
