Health hazard evaluation report HETA 94-0148-2441, Donnelly Printing Company, St. Louis, Missouri
In response to a request from the Graphic Communications International Union, Local 505, an investigation was begun into possible hazardous working conditions at Donnelly Printing Company (SIC-2711), St. Louis, Missouri. Concern has been expressed about solvent exposures. Workers had reported dizziness, headaches, and nausea. A walk through survey was conducted, along with employee interviews. Employee interviews indicated symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and skin irritation. A case of allergic reaction was well documented. The authors conclude that although worker exposures to airborne concentrations of hydrocarbons were low, skin exposure could result in significant exposures. The authors recommend that efforts be made to improve the ventilation of the work areas, use of personal protective equipment, and the health and safety program.
