Western Research Institute (Laramie, Wyoming) has developed a novel process for reclaiming tank bottom wastes from oil production processes. The technology, called the Tank Bottom Recovery and Remediation (TaBoRR{sup R}) process, removes the water and solids from tank bottom wastes, producing a saleable hydrocarbon product. The technology has been tested in laboratory experiments with promising results. Results indicate that 54% to 57% (by volume) oil recovery is possible using this technology. Results from a field demonstration unit will soon be available. With EPA`s proposed listing of clarified slurry oil tank sediment and possible listing of crude oil storage tank sediment, the development of this technique may be quite timely. The TaBoRR{sup R} process is summarized in this paper. 1 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab.
