Ion-molecule reactions of CF{sub 3}O{sup -}, CF{sub 3}O, and CF{sub 3}OH were studied using the flowing afterglow technique to evaluate the thermochemistry of CF{sub 3}OH and related compounds. The gas-phase acidity of CF{sub 3}OH was measured to be {Delta}{sub r}H{sub acid}{degree} = 329.8{+-}2.0 kcal mol{sup -1} by ion-molecule reaction bracketing. A limit on the electron affinity of the CF{sub 3}O radical of = 89.2 kcal mol{sup -1} was also determined. The CF{sub 3}O-H bond strength derived from these results is 124.7{+-}3.6 kcal mol{sup -1}, which is consistent with recent ab initio calculations of the heats of formation CF{sub 3}O and CF{sub 3}OH. 37 refs., 1 fig., 4 tabs.
