This article explores the problems of fluid flow in a dual porosity medium, such as may be applied to hydrocarbon reservoirs or aquifers. Phenomenological equations for the poroelastic behavior of a dual porosity medium are formulated. It is generally assumed that fluid flow occurs primarily through the fracture network, while fluid storage occurs primarily in the porous matrix. The present work has important implications for wave propagation and reservoir pumping scenarios in double porosity media.
