New software language helps PLCs adapt to the future

Ever since programmable logic controllers (PLCs) appeared as alternatives to hard-wires relay logic, their benchmark language has been (by default) relay ladder logic. Now, the sequential function chart (SFC) is one of several high-level, flow-chart-oriented languages at last taking hold in North America. The benefits afforded by such languages are illustrated through an example in this article.
