A national symbol of the United States, the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) plays an important role in the riverine ecosystem at the Hanford Site. Most Bald Eagles found on the Hanford Site occupy the site annually during winter and early spring. Monitoring Bald Eagles during this period is conducted to maintain current biological information about Bald Eagle abundance and distribution on the Hanford Site, to ensure compliance with protection regulations, and to inform future protection and management efforts.
