Salt-gradient solar pond, Miamisburg, Ohio

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:257273

The City of Miamisburg, Ohio has under construction the largest working, salt-gradient solar pond in the world. The pond will reduce the city`s dependence upon fossil fuels in its community park development project. The thermal energy stored in the pond will be used to supply heat when necessary to an outdoor swimming pool and a recreational building. The concept for the solar pond followed initial work done by Professor Carl Nielsen of Ohio State University. The US DOE has funded its nearby Mound Facility to provide documentation and evaluation of the pond.
