The modern industrial facility depends on sensitive electronic equipment that can be shut down suddenly by severe power system disturbances. A large number of these disturbances on the power system can be attributed to line faults which cause momentary voltage sags. The resulting production outages, however, can last much longer. The GE Static Series Voltage Regulator (SSVR) prevents such disruptions by automatically and rapidly regulating the three-phase supply voltages, thereby buffering critical loads from disturbances and avoiding downtime and cleanup costs. This paper reviews the SSVR technology and discusses some application considerations.
