Superdeformation studies in {sup 191}Hg: Probing the neutron single-particle levels near N=112

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:256484

A study of superdeformed (SD) structures in {sup 191}Hg has been carried out at GAMMASPHERE with the {sup 160}Gd({sup 36}S,5n) and {sup 174}Yb({sup 22}Ne,5n) reactions at 172 and 120 MeV, respectively. Three new SD bands have been observed bringing the total number of SD bands identified in this nucleus to seven. The four previously identified SD bands have recently been discussed in ref. A detailed comparison with the six SD bands identified in {sup 193}Pb show striking similarities. A comparison to cranked shell model (CSM) calculations has allowed us to propose quasiparticle assignments for all of the SD bands now identified in {sup 191}Hg.
