Lifetime measurements for SD bands in {sup 151}Dy
- Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, CA (United States); and others
A Doppler Shift Attenuation Measurement (I)SAM was performed to extract lifetimes of superdeformed (SD) states in {sup 151,152}Dy nuclei populated in the {sup 122}Sn({sup 34}S,5 & 4n) reactions at a beam energy of 175 MeV. Phase I of GAMMASPHERE, which at the time consisted of 55 detectors, was employed for the measurement and a total of 1.5 x 10{sup 9} four and higher fold coincidence events were recorded. Six SD bands are now known in {sup 151}Dy. Since both {sup 151,152}Dy are produced in this reaction, a precise comparison will be presented of the lifetimes of the yrast SD band in {sup 151}Dy and of an excited band in {sup 151}Dy. These bands display identical Im{sup 2} moments of inertia and have been intepreted in terms of pseudospin symmetry.
