One-photon IR-photodissociation of diatomic molecular ions

Journal Article · · High Energy Chemistry
OSTI ID:255658

The results of an investigation of one-photon photodissociation of H{sub 2}{sup +}, D{sub 2}{sup +}, HD{sup +}, N{sub 2}{sup +} ions together with isotopes, O{sub 2}{sup +} and I{sub 2}{sup +}, occurring under the action of CO{sub 2} laser radiation, are presented. The work was conducted on a mass spectrometer with two magnetic analyzers and a collision chamber situated between them. The ions were produced in an ion source with electron impact. It was shown that photodissociation occurs as a result of electronic transitions from high vibrational levels of various electronic states of the ions to the closest repulsive state. 23 refs., 3 figs.
