Measurement of the neutron-proton elastic scattering angular distribution at En=10 MeV

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:255509
The angular distribution for n-p elastic scattering in the center-of-mass system is believed to deviate from isotropy by several percent at 10 MeV according to one-boson exchange potentials, phase-shift parameter sets, and evaluated nuclear data libraries. The potential models and phase shift predictions differ, however, from the evaluated libraries in the extent of the deviation. We have measured the relative angular distribution of n-p scattering from 60 to 180 degrees in the center-of-mass system at E{sub n} = 10 MeV by detecting the recoil protons. Details of this precision measurement will be presented and results compared with predictions. Implications for standards cross sections for neutron flux measurements will be discussed.
