The adsorption of H{sub 2}S and H-ZSM5 and Na-ZSM5 was investigated by means of IR spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption, and gravimetry. The surface chemistry for equilibrium pressures of H{sub 2}S from 10{sup {minus}5} to 0.5 mbar was studied. H{sub 2}S was found to be hydrogen bonded to the SiOHAl groups of H-ZSM5, oriented in two different positions toward the surface. On the alkali-metal-exchanged form of ZSM5, H{sub 2}S adsorbed coordinatively on the alkali-metal cation via the sulfur atom. 25 refs; 8 figs., 2 tabs.
