Demand-side management lighting and global environmental issues

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:254535

Green Lights can be viewed as a demand-side management (DSM) program. In the future, as utilities contribute fewer direct dollars and instill more leadership and customer service activities into their DSM programs, they`ll begin to resemble Green Lights. Three pricipal environmental benefits from DSM pertain to acid rain, smog, and the greenhouse effect. The public is receptive to efforts to reduce emissions of pollutants. The author points out the emissions reductions which could be realized by implementing energy efficiency programs just related to lighting systems. He emphasizes the importance of using the environmental implications of such actions in advertising and publicity to recognize industry action in such programs, and to encourage broader participation.
