Ruthenium catalysed transformations of alkynes synthesis of furans and unsaturated aldehydes
- Universite de Rennes (France)
During the last years, the power and versatility of ruthenium catalysts towards the activation of organic substrates has appeared for the promotion of mild oxidation processes, olefin metathesis polymerisation, as well as for the co-dimerisation of unsaturated substrates via oxidative coupling of via vinylidene intermediates. It can be shown that ruthenium(II) catalysts are especially efficient to promote selective activation of terminal alkynes in two different ways. They can play the role of electrophilic Lewis acids in the activation of the C{triple_bond}C triple bond towards nucleophilic additions, for the regioselective synthesis of functional dienes or furans via carbon-heteroatom bond formation.
