Six natural zeolites were evaluated for their ability to selectively remove heavy metal cations from solution. Ion selectivity was found to be Pb{sup +2} > Zn{sup +2} > Ni{sup +2} and Cu{sup +2} > Co{sup +2} from their respective solutions. The presence of K{sup +}, Ca{sup +2} and Mg{sup +2} in the actual waters to be used may seriously interfere with the ion exchange and elution of cations from zeolites. Zeolites were found not to be effective in removing precious metals from their cyanide solutions.
