The feasibility of designing a supercritical sliding pressure circulating fluidized bed boiler with vertical furnace walls has been studied. The study provided an in-depth analysis of the circulation system for the combustor. The combustor walls are constructed of fin-welded panels formed by rifled bored tubes. Orifices, installed at the inlet of the tubes, are used to control flow distribution and minimize thermal stresses caused by fluid temperature difference across the combustor wall width. In addition, a general description of the start-up system and boiler operation are included.
