Basic principles of the development of methods of testing materials for wear and fatigue are outlined. Specimens and friction couple models are proposed for virtually all types of wear and fatigue tests. Fatigue curves for representing test results are discussed. Technical requirements to testing machines to be used in standard wear and fatigue tests are specified.
