Spin-spin interactions between polarized neutrons and polarized {sup 27}Al and {sup 59}Co from coupled-channel analyses

Coupled-channel (CC) analyses of published neutron scattering and reaction data for {sup 27}Al and {sup 59}Co at incident energies between 0.5 MeV and 50 MeV have been performed. The resulting potentials are used to place constraints on the determination of the spin-spin interaction from published spin-spin cross-section measurements. For both nuclei, the strength of the central real spin-spin potential V{sub SS}{le}0.85 MeV. It is pointed out that there exists a nearly linear relationship between the energy-derivative of the total cross section and the spin-spin cross section for these two nuclei as well as for {sup 93}Nb. This relationship is used to set a lower, positive bound on V{sub SS}. Their phenomenological results are in good agreement with recent microscopic calculations.
