A simple, highly economical particle identification method based on pulse shape analysis
- and others
A simple pulse processing concept is presented which allows one to achieve a high-quality pulse-shape discrimination using two charge-integrating ADC channels with common, liberal gating. A two-transistor implementation of the concept is described and the results of its application tests with an NE213 liquid scintillator detector (neutron-gamma discrimination) as well as with a CsI(Tl) scintillator (p, d, and t discrimination) are discussed. High quality of the achieved discrimination, an extremely low cost, simplicity, and compactness of the electronics circuit, as well as its ease of setup, high stability, and reproducibility make the described method a natural choice for various multi-detector devices, such as liquid-scintillator neutron spectrometers, CsI(Tl) light charged particle detector arrays or fast-slow phoswich arrays.
