Single nucleon absorption contribution to (e,e{prime}) and (e,e{prime}p) in the quasi-elastic region

In previous investigations of (e,e{prime}) on {sup 40}Ca in the quasi-elastic region the authors found that for energy transfers between 100 MeV and 200 MeV the cross section data is well explained by single nucleon absorption. In this kinematic region there is no evidence of {open_quotes}longitudinal suppression{close_quotes}. They have recently obtained the {sup 208}Pb (e,e{prime}) cross section data from Saclay in the same kinematic region and using a full DWBA analysis of the Coulomb distortion effects on the electrons will investigate single nucleon absorption in {sup 208}Pb and compare with this data set. They will also discuss the applicability to {sup 208}Pb of the effective momentum approximation (EMA). The {sup 208}Pb(e,e{prime}p) reaction has been measured at comparable energies at NIKHEF. In this case the authors show that the reduced cross section {rho}{sub m} may be consistently extracted from the cross section by dividing by the off shell electron-proton cross section calculated in EMA.
