Electromagnetic gauge invariance and composite mesons

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society

Gauge invariance requires that the photon-meson vertex be related to the meson inverse propagator through a Ward-Takahashi identity. Here the author derives the explicit form this identity takes for composite q{bar q} pions at the ladder Bethe-Salpeter level. The composite fields, their propagators, and photon couplings are built from the quark level according to the global color symmetry model of QCD. The contribution beyond the usual point form is related to the ability of the meson internal structure to absorb momentum.
