Strangeness production in nucleons and nuclei at CEBAF

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:243644
Most of the matter in our world is composed of up and down constituent quarks, and gluons. Systems with strangeness have, additionally, strange constituent quarks. The study of such systems is expected to be a major part of the research program at CEBAF. The experimental nuclear physics program at Hampton University is focussed upon the electroproduction of kaons and nucleons and complex nuclei in order to study both elementary processes and interactions involving hyperons in the nuclear medium. In order to achieve these objectives, the Hampton University personnel are active participants in several approved proposals at CEBAF, as both spokesmen and collaborators, and have assumed major responsibility for several significant aspects of the experimental facilities in Hall B and C and CEBAF. An overview of the program and the physics issues will be presented.
