Low energy limit of e-Neon & e-Agron interaction potentials for elastic scattering

An earlier study of the critical minima of the differential cross-section (DCS) for electrons scattered by selected atoms is extended to study the low energy limit of the effective interaction potential for electrons scattering by Neon and Argon atoms in their ground state. In the present study a non-relativistic Hartree Fock wave function of the target atom and its optimized representation is used to compute the short range static part of the interaction potential. The parameter contained in the polarization potential is determined by requiring that the computed critical minima of the DCS as a function of the incident energy E and scattering angle @ of the incident electron agree with recent experimental values within 2%. The resulting DCS in the angular range 2<@<178 is compared with available experimental and theoretical results for neon and argon atoms. The computed DCS and the integral elastic cross sections using the effective interaction potential is compared with recently published experimental and theoretical results for the selected target atoms.
