Isospin dependence of high energy pion double charge exchange

Pion double charge exchange (DCX) reactions leading to the double isobaric analog states (DIAS) have now been investigated over a wide range of incident pion energies - from 35 to 550 MeV. Most extensive data are at 292 MeV, but DIAS cross sections for many nuclei have now been measured for T{sub {pi}} = 300-550 MeV. Cross sections for DCX reactions have been studied in terms of proportionality to A{sup {minus}{alpha}}{sub tgt}. For T{sub {pi}} > 300 MeV, cross sections were fitted to an {alpha} = (7/3) dependence. An apparant difference was discovered for even and odd T which does not appear to exist at 292 MeV. Each can be fitted with {alpha} = (7/3), but with separate overall multiplicative constants. This behavior is inconsistent with present theoretical expectations.
