Multifragmentation events have been measured in 4{pi} coverage for {sup 197}Au collisions at E/A = 100, 250 and 400 MeV using the Miniball/Wall, the Catania Silicon-CsI array and the Aladin Spectrometer. For E/A = 250 MeV and 400 MeV, there is monotonic relation between charge particle multiplicities, N{sub c} and bound charge particles from the projectile spectator, Z{sub bound}. At E/A = 100 MeV, the number of intermediate mass fragments (Z>3) produced increases monotonically with N{sub c} reaching values close to 10 fragments for the most central collisions. As the incident energy is increased, however, the multiplicity of fragments produced in central collisions decreases, consistent with an evolutionn of multifragmentation in the central collisions towards vaporization. At the highest energy, E/A = 400 MeV, multifragmentation becomes a phenomenon confined to intermediate impact parameters, consistent with an evolution towards peripheral collisions as the process evolves towards limiting fragmentation.
