We have designed a simple version of a self-collimating cerenkov counter that is especially suited to identification of sigma hyperons at an energy of about 100 GeV. By utilizing all of the light produced, we can obtain extremely low efficiencies for unwanted particles. The central feature is the use of a three-way light splitter that separates the cerenkov light over, at, or under the desired cerenkov angle. Utilization of the light on either side of the cerenkov angle of interest in anticoincidence produces excellent rejection and resolution in a comparatively short counter.
