Development of SOFC cathodes for reduced-temperature applications
- Univ. of Tokyo (Japan)
It is very important to reduce the operating temperature of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for actual applications. Here, cathode materials of La{sub 1{minus}x}Sr{sub x}MN{sub 1{minus}y}Co{sub y}O{sub 3} systems having mixed conduction properties were investigated for reduced temperature operation. The thermal expansion coefficient, the chemical stability against YSZ, the electronic conductivity, the O{sup 2{minus}} ionic conductivity, and the overpotential of the materials were measured. The model for porous cathode was made to clarify the relationship between the overpotential and the ionic conductivity. This model was useful to design a cathode material itself and also its microstructure.
