In order to design high Performance electrodes for SOFC, polarization properties of Pt and samaria-doped ceria (SDC) electrodes attached to zirconia electrolytes with various ionic conductivities investigated. The higher the {sigma}{sub ion}, the higher the exchange current density for the Pt anode in H{sub 2} at 800--1,000 C. In contrast, the polarization of the SDC anode was not influenced by the {sigma}{sub ion} at 900 and 1,000 C probably due to the enhanced reaction zone brought by the mixed conduction of SDC.
