Phase equilibria in the La-Sr-Co-O system and thermodynamic stability of the single phases

The phase equilibria in La-Sr-Co-O system have been studied in air at 1,100. The binary oxides found in the system are: LaCoO{sub 3}, Sr{sub 2}Co{sub 2}O{sub 5} and Sr{sub 3}Co{sub 2}O{sub z}. Sr{sub 3}Co{sub 2}O{sub z} was synthesized at the first time and has the tetragonal structure. The solid solutions formed in the system and their compositional ranges were determined as La{sub 1{minus}x}Sr{sub x}CoO{sub 3{minus}{delta}} (0{<=}x{<=}0.8) and (La{sub 1{minus}y}Sr{sub y}){sub 2}CoO{sub 4} (0.3{<=}y{<=}0.55). The thermodynamic stability of the solid solution at 1,100 C was determined as a function of oxygen pressure by X-ray diffraction of the quenched samples and EMF measurements in a galvanic cell with solid electrolyte.
