Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:241269
This decision document presents a selected remedial action designed to protect human and ecological receptors at Zone 4, Pease AFB, New Hampshire. Zone 4 includes four sites: Site 6 (Landfill 6), Site 17 (Construction Rubble Dump 2), Site 20 (Grafton Ditch), and Site 40 (Auto Hobby Shop). The selected remedy includes the excavation of contaminated landfill soil and solid waste associated with Site 6. The excavated materials will be disposed of at Landfill 5, another base landfill that is scheduled for final closure. Landfill 5 will be capped using a RCRA composite-barrier type cap. The selected remedy also includes groundwater extraction at Site 6 during excavation activities for dewatering purposes. Contaminated groundwater will be extracted via a sump in the excavated area and will be treated in a temporary, on-site groundwater treatment unit. Discharge of treated water will be to the local POTW, via the base sanitary sewer. The Air Force has determined that no action is necessary under CERCLA to ensure the protection of human health and the environment at Sites 17, 20, and 40.
