Pipeline seabed interaction, free span development

Conference ·
OSTI ID:237920

As part of a Joint Industry Project ``Pipe/Cable Burial`` physical model tests were performed to study the two and three-dimensional scour development under combined current and waves. From the results of the tests it was possible to establish empirical relations for the onset of scour and the two-dimensional scour depth as function of Keulegan-Carpenter number and initial embedment. Also for the onset and development of the scour along the pipeline experimental relations were established. The results of this study have been incorporated in a three-dimensional model for the prediction of the self-lowering and free span development by submarine pipelines.
