Upheaval buckling behavior of flexible flowlines

This paper operates a synthesis of extensive investigations carried out on the upheaval buckling behavior of flexible flowlines both on the theoretical and experimental level. The specific behavior of flexibles to this regard is outlined, in comparison with the behavior of the steel pipe mainly with respect to influence of imperfections, loading cycles and under pressure burial. Various calculation schemes are reviewed and a preferred method is proposed for the design of trenches and covers.
