A micromechanics model is presented for determining the elastic constants of unidirectional composites reinforced with short fibers. The model is based on the modification of a 3-phase embedded concentric cylinder model. In this modification the cylindrical fibers are replaced by composite fibers which reflects the distance between fiber ends in the aligned short fiber composite, i.e. the fiber cylinder is assumed to be constructed of a fiber length and a matrix length. A strength-of-materials approach is then utilized for determining the elastic properties of the composite fiber. All elastic constants are determined by this procedure.
