The use of different shifted narrow band amplifying media in the Chirped Pulse Amplification technique allows one to produce sub-100 TW pulses with duration in the 250--300 fs range. By focusing these pulses on target the authors have obtained peak intensities above 2.10{sup 19} W/cm{sup 2}. These developments give rise to new concepts in inertial confinement fusion like the fast-ignitor concept where these pulses are used to ignite a precompressed fusion target.
