Piezooptical constants of LiKSO{sub 4} crystals in the incommensurate phase

Journal Article · · Optics and Spectroscopy
OSTI ID:232913
Temperature and spectral dependences of the piezooptical constants {pi} {sub 13}{sup 0} for LiKSO{sub 4} crystals are studied. A significant dispersion dependence of {pi}{sub 13}{sup 0}is established. An anomaly in the temperature variations of 7{pi}{sub 13}{sup 0}is found in the region of phase transition between the incommensurate and commensurate phases. This anomaly is associated with the influence of a uniaxial mechanical pressure on the order parameter and spontaneous deformation of a crystal. An attempt is made to separate the contributions of a true piezooptical effect and a secondary effect caused by the displacement of the order parameter and the spontaneous deformation along the temperature axis induced by the mechanical stress. 5 refs., 3 figs.
