In 1956 the helical instability in the inert gas positive column in a longitudinal magnetic field B was found by Lehnert, and then analyzed by Kadomtsev and Nedospasov, Hoh, and many investigators. Lately, low frequency instabilities in the electronegative gas positive column were theoretically studied by Deniels et al. and Matsumoto, one of the present authors. These instabilities axe to bring about ionization waves or helical waves in the field B greater than a certain critical field B{sub c}. We here report some experimental results about the characteristic features, for example, the strengths of the discharge field E{sub 0} and of the critical field B{sub c}, which appear in a magnetized He gas positive column with a little amount of SH{sub 6}. Further, we discuss those experimental results comparing with Matsumoto`s theoretical analysis.
