The research programs conducted in NUCEF are related to safety improvement and advancement of technology on the nuclear fuel cycle back-end. Hot operation of this facility was started in 1994 and experimental researches are currently in steady progress. Criticality experiments have been performed in order to obtain basic data on fuel solution and furthermore preparation for plutonium experiments is being conducted. Aiming at base technology development on fuel reprocessing and waste management, various experiments are carried out in hot cells and glove boxes. In this paper present status and future direction of R and D activities in NUCEF are described.
