Problem: Advanced nuclear reactors come in many sizes, materials, and designs; Criticality experiments are necessary to understand, quantify, and validate these reactors. Approach: The National Criticality Experiments Research Center (NCERC) operated by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) conducts criticality experiments; Deimos is a graphite-moderated, beryllium-reflected, high assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) fueled experiment; Modeling and simulation is needed to design Deimos.
